Network Analysis
When we talk about health systems, what do we mean? What do health systems actually look like, from the community perspective?
Better Health Together (BHT), the Accountable Community of Health (ACH) serving the 6-county region of Eastern Washington, sought to answer these questions when they launched their efforts in 2016. BHT conducted a comprehensive network analysis to gain an evidence-based understanding of the regional health system, as reported by community members and organizations. After the network analysis was complete, they reflected on what they learned.
They asked: Health system? What health system?! The system wasn’t a system but a collection of silos. So they set to work identifying and dismantling the structural inequities that had been creating divisions across the region for decades. Two years later, they saw their efforts had been working: organizations were working together in new and innovative ways. They were bridging the silos.
