Fueling Community Power: The Impact of Grant Writing Stipends in 2025

The Grant Writing Stipend (GWS) program is designed to give Community Based Organizations the resources and time they need to go after funding opportunities that make lasting impacts in our region.

By The Numbers

• 60 awards given to date
• $300,000 in funds distributed directly to local organizations through stipends
• $3.14 million in grant awards secured in 2025 by organizations who utilized the GWS program
Every stipend represents more than just dollars. It represents capacity, confidence, and the ability to turn bold ideas into funded action.

Major Awards to Date

Several organizations in our region utilized the GWS program to secure transformative funding, including:
• Yoyot Sp’q’n’i – $400,000
• NAACP Spokane – $750,000
• Mujeres In Action – $285,000
• If You Could Save Just One – $100,000
• Asians for Collective Liberation – $500,000

Why It Matters

Nonprofits and local nonprofits often carry heavy workloads with limited staff capacity. Preparing a strong grant proposal takes time and focus, two things many small teams can’t easily spare. The GWS program helps to close that gap.
By covering staff time and resources needed to write grants, it’s helping organizations strategically growing their programs. The success of 2025 shows the power of investing in local capacity.

Looking Ahead

At this time, the Grant Writing Stipends program is on pause for new applications. Still, the stories and successes of this year’s awardees demonstrate the lasting value of investing in community capacity. We’re committed to building on this progress and will share updates as new opportunities become available.
