At Better Health Together, we are committed to building an equitable workplace where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and be celebrated. Part of that commitment means recognizing and actively honoring the histories, struggles, and contributions of historically marginalized communities.
Recently, BHT enacted a new policy to ensure that our staff are supported in participating meaningfully in observance days that align with our values of equity, justice, and inclusion. By connecting cultural observances to real health concerns, social barriers, and historically impacted communities, we deepen our shared understanding of equity and our role in creating systems change. We provide dedicated Community Time On (CTO) to give space for reflection, learning, and community involvement.
Recognized Observance Days
The following equity-focused observances were added to BHT’s 2026 Community Time On calendar. This ensures our internal equity practices mirror the same intentionality we bring to community-facing work. This list is not exhaustive, and we welcome input from to expand it in future:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Juneteenth
- Indigenous Peoples’ Day
- International Women’s Day
- May Day/International Workers’ Day
- Black History Month
- Disability Awareness Month
- Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
- Pride Month
- Hispanic Heritage Month
- Native American Heritage Month
Community Time On (CTO) for Equity Participation
To ensure staff are not limited by work schedules during these important days, BHT is placing internal calendar blocks in order to participate in equity-related observances or activities.
Our Community Voice & Engagement team, in partnership with community partners, will coordinate opportunities such as:
- Guest speaker sessions and storytelling events
- Equity focused panels, trainings, and workshops
- Community drives and volunteer opportunities
- Film screenings and reflection circles
- Equity-centered learning cohorts or book clubs

November 18 – Native American Heritage Month
We’ll welcome Taylor Birdtail (Aaniiih & Cree), Founder of RedUrban, who will share her work in Native language revitalization and cultural preservation.
