Building Skills And Strengthening Community

April 23, 2026

Community-Based Workers (CBWs) such as peer support specialists, Promotor(a)s de Salud, wellness coordinators, and more are on the front lines every day, helping individuals navigate systems, access resources, and stay connected to care. Supporting this workforce is essential to building a system that truly works for people.

This spring, our team has been leading trainings designed to strengthen, support, and sustain the community-based workforce across our region.

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR TRAININGS

Trauma Awareness and Stewardship Training

In collaboration with the Revive Center for Returning Citizens, we are currently hosting a Trauma Awareness and Stewardship Training running from April through June. While this session is now closed to new registrants, the impact is already clear.

This training takes a trauma-informed approach to understanding how trauma shows up, not just for individuals, but across teams and systems. It creates space for reflection, learning, and shared understanding, helping participants better support both the communities they serve and themselves.

We plan to offer another session in the second half of 2026. If you’re interested in joining a future cohort, you can reach out to our Training Manager, Adell Whitehead, at [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.

Strengthening Personal Resilience Workshop

Our Strengthening Personal Resilience Workshop focused on something many in community-based work feel every day: stress and burnout.

With more than 40 CBWs in attendance, this training was highly interactive and grounded in real-life application. Participants explored tools like circles of control, simple somatic exercises, and reflection practices to better understand and manage stress.

By the end of the session, participants walked away with personalized, realistic resilience plans and tools they can implement to support their well-being in demanding roles.

Health Insurance 101

Navigating health insurance can be overwhelming. Our Insurance 101 training helps break it down.

This session covered the basics of how insurance works, common types of coverage, and how Washington residents can access care through Washington Healthplanfinder. Just as importantly, it focused on how participants can help others, including clients, family members, and community members, get connected to support.

The thoughtful questions and discussions throughout the training reinforced just how complex these systems can be, and why Navigators and assisters play such an essential role.

LOOKING AHEAD

These trainings are part of a broader commitment to support and sustain the community-based workforce. By investing in the knowledge, skills, and well-being of CBWs and their partners, we’re strengthening the people who make care possible and the communities they serve.

We’re excited to continue offering training that supports the community-based workforce across Eastern Washington.
