For many people, Community Health Workers are the difference between getting lost in the system and finding the support they need. Their commitment turns barriers into bridges and challenges into opportunities for health and hope. In the stories that follow, you’ll hear directly from CHWs about the moments that matter most.
Community Health Worker Awareness Week is here! From August 25-29, 2025, we’re joining communities nationwide to celebrate the people who make health care more accessible, equitable, and human.
In 2022, Better Health Together (BHT) was selected to receive a highly competitive Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Community Health Worker training grant to support the expansion of the Community Health Worker (CHW) workforce in Adams, Ferry, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, and Stevens Counties. While the program is sunsetting, the commitment to the community based workforce will continue.
From March 10th -12th , Kim Wilson, BHT staff member and Community Health Worker Training Program Manager, joined over 100 Community Health Workers (CHW) at a national conference in Washington DC to bring continued awareness to CHWs and oppose cuts to Medicaid.
Kim Wilson, Community-Based Workforce Program Manager at Better Health Together and a dedicated lifelong Community Health Worker, addressed the Washington State Health Care Authority, passionately advocating for the Medicaid reimbursement of community health workers (CHWs) in non-clinical settings.
